I am a geologist with over 30 years’ experience in the oil industry and in the academia.
When graduated, I started as lecturer in Paleontology and Stratigraphy at the University, where I continue to teach Stratigraphy and Applied Biostratigraphy today.
In the early years of my career I was a micropaleontologist, later becoming an expert in Palynology. At those times I started the use of quantitative palynofacies as a tool for reservoir characterization and correlation, an idea that was patented.
Later, I worked as researcher. I also lead for many years multidisciplinary teams of biostratigraphers, sedimentologists, petrophysics and geochemists. Teams that support all exploration activities of the company I work for at those times.
I went up the corporate ladder to become Head of Geological Laboratories and Head of Stratigraphy with the responsibility to lead and develop a team of tens of experts, with the added responsibility of assuring to the Exploration Teams the correct integration of the specialized geological information.
Later in my career, I was promoted to the Planning and Strategy Manager position and was responsible for the development of the short, medium and long term master plan for a Exploration Business Unit.
I retired from the corporation I work for, and a short time later started a company for consulting services in geology and environmental sciences.
Several years later, I did a career move for a short while to the food industry, where I was responsible to implement the environmental and R+D efforts of a local company, a challenge that was rewarded by a regional ecoeficiency award.
I had been President of my country Geological Society, as well as, International Councilor in a Board of Directors, member and co-chair of several Committees in well-known and recognized International Professional Societies.
I have been honored with the Special Commendation (Distinguished Service) Award from AAPG, as well as receiving several other professional recognitions.
Currently I work as an International Consultant in Geology, and continue with the teaching and mentoring of younger generations.
